Some things can only be done through prayer and fasting.

Scripture: Acts 13: 3:  “So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.”

Observation:  Leviticus went into the practices of sacrifices and offerings.  I don’t think I will ever understand the purpose of throwing the blood against the altar.  All I can think of is how that must have drawn a lot of flies.  Unholy thought I know, but it is just what comes to mind.  In Acts, Paul and Barnabas go out on their first mission trip.

Application:  I don’t think in this day and age that we recognize the seriousness of praying, fasting and laying hands on people.  We just tell people to go off and evangelize, but do we really prepare them, and do we really pray for them?

Prayer  Father, God, we are lax.  We tend to just shoot from the hip.  Forgive us our lack of preparedness.  Forgive us for not taking evangelism and missions serious enough.  Impress upon our hearts a passion for your service.

Tomorrow’s Reading:  Leviticus 4-6; Acts 14
