Please Lord, stop this plague.

I have been negligent on maintaining my blog because I have been taking a class called “Whatever Became of Holiness?”  It has given me a lot to think about.  Is holiness dying in our Churches?   If it is, whose fault is it?  Just some thoughts before I start back into the “Divine Mentor”
Scripture:   Deuteronomy 9:25-26 “So I lay prostate before the LORD for these forty days and forty nights, because the Lord had said he would destroy you.  And I prayed to the Lord, ‘O Lord God, do not destroy your people and your heritage, whom you have redeemed through your greatness, whom you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.”

Observations:  In Mark 15, Jesus is delivered to Pilate, and since he won’t defend himself, Pilate is forced to turn him over to be killed and to release the villain Barabbas.  Jesus is mocked by his scourgers, and then crucified. When Jesus died, the Centurion recognizes that He is the Son of God. Joseph of Arimathea, asks for Jesus’ body, and gives him a proper burial.
In Deuteronomy, God gives many commands, and assures the people that if they will follow His ways of living, he will bless them, but if they don’t… They were instructed to completely destroy the people they were going in to displace so those people would not lead them into sin.  Too bad they didn’t take that advice.   In chapter 9, Moses recounts how the Israelites were disobedient, and how he had to stand in the gap.

Application:  I have thought of today’s Scripture as I have prayed for the end of Covid-19.  There are many places throughout the Israelite’s journey, where the people committed great sins and the Lord would send a plague to destroy them.  Every time, someone stood in the gap and either through humbly pleading or by taking action to stop sinners.  It is a time right now for us to be standing in the gap that the Lord, our God would stop this awful plague and heal our world, not just the nation.

Prayer:  Lord, we know that we are a sinful nation, and the world has turned against its creator.  Many no longer acknowledge you.  We have gone into the Promised Land and acted deceitfully.  We have broken promises and we have lived carnally.  Lord, we deserve the plague that is quickly overtaking us, but Lord, you promised that if your people would humble themselves and pray and turn from their evil ways, that you would forgive their sins and heal their nation.   We humble ourselves before you Lord.  We ask for forgiveness.  We ask for healing.  Lord, please send a revival through this land, and wake up your people from their slumber.  I pray this in the mighty Name of Jesus.

Tomorrow’s Readings:  Deuteronomy 10-12; Mark 16
