Scripture: Mark 11:17 “And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? But you have made it a den of robbers.”
Observations: In Mark we start out with the Triumphal Entry. Everyone is claiming Jesus as King, but in a few days that will turn around. The odd story of Jesus cursing the fig tree shows that we can do all types of things if we do not doubt. I’ve been reading about deliverance ministry and I wonder if we are failing to live up to our potential because of unbelief? One reason for that is our holding on to grudges or hurts and failing to forgive. Numbers 34 was all about how land would be divided. Chapter 35 was concerning property for the Levites and cities of refuge where people could flee if they accidentally killed someone. Numbers 36 talked about inheritances for daughters.
Application: I wonder how many of our churches are really houses of prayer. Do we take prayer seriously, or are we, like the Pharisees, more concerned about the different ministries of the church and how we are going to get along and work things out? Something to think about. Let's not rob God.
Prayer: Father God, Jesus taught us to pray, and many times throughout Scripture the necessity of prayer is realized. Lord, direct our churches to the mission of prayer. Open the hearts of our people to pray. There is no need to small for prayer. Nothing we do should be undertaken without taking it before you in prayer. Teach us to pray again, Lord. Please. Amen
