A miry pit

Observations:  Corinthians today spoke against Church Division.  It called for us to be a unified body.  That goes well with my favorite saying: “In essentials unity; in non-essentials, liberty; and, in all things, charity.” My reading in Deuteronomy made something very clear to me today.  Moses knew the power of God.  He had seen it at work.  These past few chapters have been full of warnings for the Israelites.  No false Gods!  Know the Law!  Be Obedient!  If you don’t, life will not go well.  In chapter 31, Moses acknowledges his age, and God moves Joshua into position to take over.  It is good to have a succession plan.

Scripture: Psalm 40:1-2  “I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry.  He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock making my steps secure.”

Application:  In my study Bible, Psalm 40 is sub-titled: “My Help and My Deliverer”.  That is God.  Verse 6 says “‘He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.”  This is my testimony.  Verse 11 says: “…your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me.”  That is truth!  No matter what comes my way, as long as I have the Holy Spirit with me, nothing can defeat me.  As the Corinthians reading said today, we can’t boast in ourselves, but I will boast in what the LORD has done for me!

Prayer:  God, I cannot thank you enough for pulling me from the pit of despair all those years ago.  I have friends, Lord, who need to be pulled out of theirs.  Lord, I will forever praise you! You are my redeemer, and my solid rock.  Without you, I would be sinking in quicksand.  I praise you for your holiness.  I praise you for your unending and underserved love.  I praise you for taking a sinner like me, and using me in your service.  I praise you for this day! I praise you forever more.
